We work with words every day. Linguists, writers, developers – all with one thing in common: a genuine love of language. So when International Mother Language Day comes around, it doesn’t exactly take much to get us in the mood to celebrate.
Nelson Mandela once said: “If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.”
That’s exactly the kind of magic we see happening every day.
Because it’s not about grammar or syntax. It’s about identity. About heritage. About that feeling of being at home.
Whether it’s Arabic, English, Meänkieli or German, every mother tongue carries a unique story and a rhythm that no other language can replace.
